Ecstacy Unveiled (a review)

(Warning: this is my first written review, so I’ll start by saying it’s not a “real” review, lol. I read to learn more about the craft of writing and to analyze what’s working in today’s market. Most of all, I read because I love to, so I will never post a review of a book I didn’t enjoy.)

THE BOOK:

Ecstasy Unveiled by Larissa Ione

THE BLURB:

A Demon Enslaved…

Lore is a Seminus half-breed demon who has been forced to act as his dark master’s assassin. Now to earn his freedom and save his sister’s life, he must complete one last kill. Powerful and ruthless, he’ll stop at nothing to carry out this deadly mission.

An Angel Tempted…

Idess is an earthbound angel with a wild side sworn to protect the human Lore is targeting. She’s determined to thwart her wickedly handsome adversary by any means necessary—even if that means risking her vow of eternal chastity. But what begins as a simple seduction soon turns into a passion that leaves both angel and demon craving complete surrender.

Torn between duty and desire, Lore and Idess must join forces as they battle their attraction for each other. Because an enemy from the past is rising again—hellbent on vengeance and unthinkable destruction.

THE INTRODUCTION:

Ecstasy Unveiled (EU as I’ll call it because I’m lazy) is book 4 in Ms. Ione’s Demonica series, which follows a group of Seminus Demon siblings as they fight for their lives and their hearts. I didn’t realize EU was part of a series when I picked it up at my local Wally World…I just liked the muscled, tattooed man on the cover!

THE HERO:

Lore has issues. He spends half the story trying to figure out how to kill Idess and the other half trying to figure out the quickest way into her pants. But assassin sex demons will be assassin sex demons…and all that. Hostility rolls off of him, but mostly, he’s just angry at himself. There is so much in his life he regrets, but despite his tragedies, there’s still good buried deep inside his soul, uncultured goodness and love just waiting to be tended. Idess describes him best when she says, “[Lore was] a demon who had more honor and love in his heart than many of the human’s she’d kept safe over the centuries.” He’s a hero you can’t help but root for and fall in love with.

THE HEROINE:

Idess is in over her head. She’s an earthbound angel who’s ready for the physical aspects of her assignment—i.e. kicking Lore’s impressive ass—she’s just not ready for the emotional pull she has to said demon. Like Lore, she’s nursing her own guilt, and the origination of their guilt is similar than either realizes.

THE CONCLUSION:

I thoroughly enjoyed EU, and I’d recommend it to anyone who’s craving a sexy paranormal romance! I love the world Ms. Ione has created for her characters; it’s horrifyingly believable. The beginning pulled me in—nothing like sex and murder in the first 5 pages to draw ya in—and from the moment (MINOR SPOILER) Lore gets stabbed in the neck by Smurfette (read the story, you’ll get it), I couldn’t put the book down!

Kudos to Ms. Ione. You’ve earned a loyal reader. Now I’ve just got to find the money to buy the first 3! 🙂

XOXOXO
